2010 Practice Info - (exact times may vary by level - parents will be informed directly by their Head Coach):
Flag Football teams practice 6:00pm - 7:30 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays starting the 1st week of August through the end of October .
Prior to the start of school (following the FCPS calendar) Contact/Tackle Football teams practice Monday-Friday, from 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm. and some Saturday mornings from 8:00 am - 10 am. Pony and Mini-Pony teams do not practice on Wednesdays.
(Intra-league scrimmages may be arranged in lieu of a practice throughout the pre-season).
Once school starts, all Contact/Tackle Football team practices are held Tuesday, Thursday & Friday evenings from 5:45 - 8:00pm.
This is a guideline, individual teams/levels will make adjustments to this practice schedule as needed. This is a huge time commitment, but our teams are historically the most prepared and conditioned.
Practice locations for all teams/levels start at Old National Pike Park (144 Fields) in late July and move to the MAYAA Fields in Mt. Airy in September through the end of the season.
Players are reminded that football is an all-year sport - meaning you should do your best to stay in shape in the off-season. For more information on pre-season conditioning, contact your Head Coach.
Parents are reminded that MAYAA Football is a volunteer & family run organization - there are many ways parents and community supporters can assist in continuing our traditions of excellence. If you have a talent to share, please feel free to help out on one of the football subcommittees. We take great pride in maintaining wonderful playing fields, top of the line equipment for our children, and fun team building activities. To that end, all Football parents are required to help the program by performing concession stand and trash collection duties at home games. Cheerleader parents are tasked with manning the gate during all home games. Sign-up sheets are circulated by the Team Parent during the pre-season. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Success of the Revolution Helmets!

The safety of each Bulldog player is our number one concern, and after researching various helmets and major football helmet developers we have determined that the Riddell Revolution Helmet (air cushioned) is currently the best overall football helmet currently on the market. We will continue to assure each Bulldog player is provided the best protective equipment possible as well as ensure all helmets are reconditioned & re-certified every year by the manufacturer.
"Today, research shows that players wearing the Riddell Revolution® are 31% less likely to suffer a concussion when compared to traditional football helmets. For athletes who had never suffered a previous concussion, wearing the Riddell Revolution® decreased their relative risk of concussion by 41%." www.riddell.com
In addition to the helmet, MAYAA Bulldogs Football is proud to supply a full practice and game uniform for each player. Players will need to provide their own football cleats (no soccer or baseball cleats, check with your coach on the specifications if you are purchasing cleats with metal spikes), an athletic supporter/cup, and a girdle (girdles are available to be purchased for $8). Mouthguards are provided by MAYAA at no cost, but many parents prefer to purchase their own or have a dentist create one (no clear or white mouthguards please!!!!).
